hi!  if i've friended you, you probably post some pretty fabulous fiction, amusing anecdotes, or something equally exciting.  if you've friended me, well, welcome to the madhouse, and try not to trip over the alliteration as you come in!

in my experience, the odds aren't really very good that someone's most recent entry will be sufficiently low-drama for people to feel comfortable piping up & introducing themselves there.  this post is intended to help prevent these dilemmas in my own journal: introductions go here, as well as any other non sequiturs.  of course, if you don't share my need for an engraved invitation, please do feel free to speak ex nihilo, ad libitum, et cetera—and to mock me for my latin & lowercase. :D

*waves* Hi! You seem to have friended me, which is great! I'm just wondering if I should be recognizing you from somewhere that I don't. >_>

hey yourself! but to answer your question: i don't think so, particularly. i don't remember my exact route to your journal, but i've been friending friends-of-friends who looked interesting lately, so it was probably something in that vein.

oh, and this wasn't my impetus for friending you, but i liked your sherlock holmes story for yuletide very much.

Hey, saw you show up on my joule! and I can't remember if you let me know why you friended me -- I do like to know how people made their way over to my LJ, as I'm a hell of a SNF. Do we know the same people?

Nice to meet you, though.

hey, i'm sorry, for some reason i never saw the notification for this comment!

it's a little difficult to answer your question at this point, but i think i probably saw a comment of yours in one of the journals we both have friended? and i love your username, which i'm sure was what prompted me to click through.

anyway, yeah, sorry about that; i really don't know how i missed this! but to (very belatedly) introduce myself: name's katie, i'm a college student myself, and i love your university bookstore. :)

You seem to have friended me, which is kind of flattering. I notice we share many of the same interests (linguistics ftw!) and I laughed at your rants on the misuse of grammar and tenses etc. Since you seem to know something about the subject, maybe you can clear up something I've been noticing recently. Lots of people say "there's lots of them in the pantry" or "there's plenty of explanations for this" and I swear that you're supposed to use "there are" for both the examples cited above. I'm right, aren't I? But I keep finding "there's" in books and other printed text as well as in speech. I'm beginning to think I'm going mad (which, it must be admitted, is a requirement for anyone planning on spending any amount of time in academic study).

I've been browsing LJ profiles looking for people with similar interests, mostly just bookmarking them to look at later. You're the second one I've found whose interests I liked so much that I friended them right away. (Funny, I didn't list "Swinburne" as an interest, but the best profiles I've found have been by searching on "Swinburne." And both the ones I friended are in the Boston area, as I am. I'm beginning to wonder if that's a coincidence.) I'm a Harvard alum BTW. (I wouldn't admit it on my profile, but since you seem to be at Harvard yourself now...) I like your poetry (what I've read so far). I also like your grammatical pedantry. (I think I'm going to comment on your grammar post now.) And the Eliot quote at the top of your profile. Sorry this comment is kind of fragmented....Really, I do write better than this usually....

OK, I'm going to add "Swinburne" to my interests. (It should be implied. Is it possible to be interested in Keats, Yeats, and Sappho without also being interested in Swinburne?)

Hey there. I just noticed that you have me friended, so I thought I'd pop over and check you out--and oh, I am so friending you back, because you write grammar rants! Clearly we're meant to get to know each other.

Hey there - looks like we have some friends in common. You like classical music, and you rant about grammar, so that's all good from my perspective. Welcome to my flist :)

oh, hey, sorry about that! i'm really into tennis at the moment, rogi & rafa specifically, and you posted some lovely icons of them to [livejournal.com profile] tennisicons -- which i will, of course, credit you for, if i use any, but mostly i just saved them so i'd have the eye candy readily accessible! anyway, i'm trying to increase the amount of tennis squee on my friendslist, and so here we are. :D

Hello! :D I just noticed that you friended me, and since I don't really get around all that much on the internet/am not in fandom there was a moment of DEEP IF SLIGHTLY FLATTERED CONFUSION before I saw that we appear to have several friends in common! Er, anyway, I am just popping by to say initial hellos/inquire out of curiosity what prompted friending/warn you that while I am friending you back because most of my stuff gets posted f-locked these days, it is usually TOTALLY INANE STUFF about, like, the new and shiny phenomenon of college and madrigal singers rehearsal or whatever. Um, yes. My name is Sares, and I am awkward. Hi!

I look forward to getting to know you! :)

hello! "confused and happy" pretty much sums up my approach to life, gotta say! ;)

um, today's random act of friending was via [livejournal.com profile] greatpoets, i think? i tend to stalk the commenters there (also at [livejournal.com profile] exceptindreams and [livejournal.com profile] theysaid) a little bit, as part of an ongoing effort to slant my flist more towards poetry lovers.

plus which, you know, you seemed cool. :D

Hi! I noticed just now that you friended me and I will of course friend you back, but I was curious as to how you came across my journal? :D I am not really anybody, so it was a little surprising.

I should warn you in advance: I am a DEEPLY UNINTERESTING person and mostly I just post inane things about physics or soulcrushingly stupid AU ficbits. You are absolutely and totally free to defriend me at any time. ♥
